New Jersey – Singer Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to failing to file her federal tax returns on over $1.8 million. As reported by CNN, the Grammy winning singer, is set to begin serving her sentence on July 8.

Hill is also reportedly required to pay related penalties, outstanding taxes, and a fine of $60,000. Her attorney, Nathan Hochman, stated that the sentence was “fair and reasonable.”

Hill is quoted in the report as stating last month on her Tumblr account of working on new music, “It has been reported that I signed a new record deal, and that I did this to pay taxes. Yes, I have recently entered into an agreement with Sony Worldwide Entertainment, to launch a new label, on which my new music will be released…And yes, I am working on new music.”
