U.S. – An HIV study has been halted by the government after purported failures. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the government stopped the study this week due to a failure to see the prevention of the virus with the experimental shots, as well as a failure to see a reduction in the amount of the AIDS virus in the blood for individuals who were infected after becoming vaccinated.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is quoted by the AP as stating of the results of the study, which began in 2009, “It’s disappointing,” however, “there was important information gained from this.”

A reported 2,504 volunteers were enrolled in the study.

Previous attempts to develop an AIDS vaccine throughout the years have also not had successful outcomes.
