Philadelphia – A Pennsylvania couple who only prayed and failed to get needed medical attention for their sick toddler in 2009, now may face new charges related to the death of another child. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the 8-month old son of Herbert and Catherine Schaible, who are members of a fundamentalist Christian church that promotes faith healing, died last week from health complications after the couple did not get him medical help.

Prosecutors have stated that a decision related to charges against the Schaibles is pending autopsy results. The couple is currently on probation for charges stemming from the death of the first child in 2009.

Mythri Jayaraman, an attorney for Catherine Schaible, is quoted by the AP as stating, “There are way more questions than answers at this point. We haven’t seen the autopsy report. We don’t know the cause of death of this child… What we do know is Mr. and Mrs. Schaible are distraught, they are grieving, they are tremendously sad about the loss of their most recent baby.”
