Thieves steal $50 million in diamonds from plane

Belgium – Thieves stole $50 million in diamonds from an airplane at an airport in Belgium Monday night. As reported by ABC News, the robbers took 120 packages of stones after driving onto an airport tarmac dressed in camouflage masks and police uniforms, while carrying submachine guns.

Ine Vanwymersch is quoted in the report as stating to ABCNews.com of the robbery, which was stated to have occurred in under 10 minutes, “It was a well prepared operation. Robbers knew exactly when Brinks diamond and jewellery services truck would load.”

The passengers aboard the plane reportedly did not see the events of the heist unfold.

No one was reportedly injured in the robbery. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
