Kansas City, Missouri – A 93-year-old man has been charged in the stabbing death of his 95-year-old wife. As reported by Reuters, Harry Irwin was charged with second-degree murder after purportedly stabbing his wife to death and then slitting his own wrists and stabbing himself in the chest.
As noted in the report, police say Irwin stated while being taken to the hospital, “Yes, I killed her then killed myself. Why am I awake?”
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker is quoted in the report as stating of the case, “Given the facts, a murder charge was warranted… No victim deserves someone else deciding when they will die.”
