New York – New York is expected to be the first to pass a gun control measure following calls for reform after the elementary school shooting in which 20 students were among those killed. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), New York Governor Andrew Cuomo remarked about the proposal Monday, which he and legislative leaders worked on.

Senate Republican leader Dean Skelos of Long Island is quoted by the AP as stating in support of the measure, “It is well-balanced, it protects the Second Amendment… This is going to go after those who are bringing illegal guns into the state, who are slaughtering people in New York City.”

The bill was expected to be passed by the Senate Monday night.
