Colorado – Attorneys in the case of a man charged with killing twelve people and wounding several others at a Colorado movie theater in July were back in court this week. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the attorneys were ordered by State District Judge William B. Sylvester to appear in court Wednesday to ensure they were prepared for a preliminary hearing set for next week, during which the judge will decide whether there is sufficient evidence to try the defendant, James Holmes.

Holmes, who was enrolled at a neuroscience Ph.D program at the University of Colorado, was charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder after purportedly opening fire during a late showing of the film “The Dark Knight Rises” at a theater in Aurora, a suburb of Denver.

Attorneys for Holmes have alleged that he suffers from mental illness.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled to start on Monday.
