Guatemala City – Software guru John McAfee was reportedly detained in Guatemala and is expected to be expelled to Belize. As reported by Reuters, McAfee, who was previously in hiding, was arrested for illegally crossing into the country after attempting to elude Belize authorities seeking to question him in the murder of his neighbor.

McAfee has reportedly stated he would be seeking political asylum in Guatemala.

Interior Minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla is quoted in the report as stating of McAfee, “He entered the country illegally and we are going to seek his expulsion for this crime.”

McAfee, who founded McAfee Associates in 1987, is no longer affiliated with the company, which is now owned by Intel Corp.
