Kansas – A divorced man accused of moving his children to the Gaza Strip illegally from Kansas has defended his actions despite the purported threat of bombings there. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Ahmed Abuhamda, who was charged with aggravated interference with parental custody after removing his three children from their home with their mother in Kansas and taking them overseas, stated to the news source that he didn’t believe the family was in danger.

The children’s mother, Bethany Gonzales, is quoted by the AP as stating, “It is hard for me because I don’t have my kids. My kids need to be home, and I don’t have that… I don’t have anybody helping me or even giving me a hope that they are going to return back to the States safely.”

Abuhamda was reportedly allowed to move his children overseas with the permission of their mother under an initial divorce decree; however, Gonzales was reportedly awarded temporary sole legal custody and residential placement of the children last month.
