A man from South Yorkshire has made a successful claim for compensation after years of working in a noisy environment left his hearing permanently damaged.

Mr Hardy, from Chesterfield, was employed by Dema Glass Limited from the 1970s until the 1990s. He subsequently started to suffer from hearing loss, and many years after leaving the company started to wonder whether years of being exposed to loud noises whilst at work had caused the problem. Whilst working at Dema Glass, hearing protection was neither provided to Mr Hardy, nor was it compulsory for other workers.

In February last year, he approached More 4 U Lawyers and made an industrial deafness claim for compensation against his former employer. The claim was successful, and he was awarded a payout of £3,500. Mr Hardy later commented that he had been “very pleased” with the way his solicitor conducted the case and said he was “very happy with the outcome”.

“Health and safety might be scoffed at in the press and by some employers, but employers have a duty of care to their workers to ensure that they have access to whatever protective equipment they require and that they are fully aware of the risks associated with their job,” said Claire Shields, Solicitor at More 4 U Lawyers. “Some people are wary of kicking up a fuss, in spite of the negligence of their employer. It’s important to come forward and speak to a professional if you’ve suffered an injury or any other sort of health problem as a result of your work.”

If you’ve been involved in an accident at work or you’ve suffered any other kind of physical or mental health problem, and you feel it was a direct consequence of your time at work, you can get the help you need by speaking to a Personal Injury Solicitor at More 4U Lawyers.
