Tucson, Arizona – The husband of Gabrielle Giffords addressed her shooter at his sentencing hearing on Thursday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Giffords’ husband Mark Kelly, spoke to 24-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, who shot Giffords in the head at a supermarket parking lot last year, in court after his wife declined to speak.

Kelly is quoted by the AP as stating to Loughner of his wife’s ordeal, “Mr. Loughner, you may have put a bullet through her head but you haven’t put a dent in her spirit and her commitment to make the world a better place.”

Loughner, who pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder charges in connection with the 2011 Tucson shooting that left six people dead and 14 others injured, was sentenced to seven life sentences plus 140 years in prison.
