Chicago – A retired Chicago police officer shot and killed his own son whom he had mistaken for an intruder at his home early this week. As reported by CBS Chicago, the retired officer, James Griffin, fatally shot his son Michael Griffin, 48, early Tuesday.

Michael’s brother, Stephen Griffin, is quoted in the report as stating of the incident, “My brother was staying there, and last I heard they were watching the Jay Leno Show, and my dad fell asleep… And I guess he assumed my brother was at home sleeping, and when someone came in the back door, he just naturally assumed it was an intruder.”

No charges have reportedly been filed in connection with the shooting. The incident is still under investigation.
