Philadelphia – A monsignor in Philadelphia has been handed down a prison sentence for purportedly covering up the sexual abuse of children by priests. As reported by Reuters, Monsignor William Lynn received a sentence of three to six years in prison after being convicted of covering up allegations of abuse in the Philadelphia Archdiocese, including transferring predatory priests to other parishes.

Lead prosecutor Patrick Blessington, is quoted in the report as stating of Lynn, who was responsible for the investigation of sex abuse allegations from 1992 to 2004, at the sentencing, “He was the master of deception… We’re talking about children being raped.”

As noted by Reuters, Lynn is the highest ranking clergyman linked to the U.S. Roman Catholic Church scandal to be convicted.
