Las Vegas, NV — Police are investigating a school bus accident that left an 11-year-old girl dead in northwest Las Vegas. The school bus accident occurred around 4 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2012, on Pebble Rock Drive, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

Kaylee Renee Derks was hit by the school bus while it was making a right turn onto Pebble Rock Road, near Ann Road. Police believe that Derks may have fallen under the bus as it turned the corner.

The accident left Kaylee dead from multiple blunt-force injuries, the coroner reported.

The bus driver nor the three students on board of the bus were injured.

The bus driver, identified as 46-year-old Leslie Rice, was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Rice is reportedly “distraught” over the accident and is taking sick time following the accident.

Investigations are underway.
