Macon County, NC — An executive jet crash killed five people in Western North Carolina Thursday afternoon, March 15, 2012. The fatal aviation accident occurred at the Macon County Airport around 1:40 p.m., reported WYFF Greenville.

The Cessna Citation 501 reportedly appeared to have approached at too steep of an angle when it attempted to correct, allowing one of the wings to dip. This caused the plane to flip and explode.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is looking into the official cause of the accident.

Five people inside the twin-engine, mid-size business jet were killed in the wreck. The identities of those killed in the aviation accident are being withheld at this time.

The plane was registered to Bogdan Jakubowski of Venice, Fla., and was traveling from the Venice Municipal Airport in Florida to Franklin, N.C.

Investigations are underway.
