San Francisco, CA — Suntech America Inc. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have voluntarily recalled about 300 installations of SolarBlend™ Roof Tiles for fire hazards the tiles pose to consumers. The CPSC announced the product recall on February 23, 2012.

The roof tiles were recalled after discovering that the connectors between the solar roof tiles can become loose, which poses a fire hazard to consumers.

“SolarBlend roof tiles replace conventional roof tiles to provide solar energy to the building. This recall involves all SolarBlend roof tiles with model numbers STP050D-5/ZCB (brown), STP050D-5/ZCF (terra cotta), and STP050D-5/ZCG (gray),” the CPSC reported.

Consumers are advised to contact Suntech if they have not been contacted already for a free inspection and repair. All repairs will be made at no cost to you.

For more information concerning the product recall, consumers can contact Suntech toll-free at (888) 770-7122 between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit http://www.suntech-power.com/product-safety.
