Los Angeles, CA — The 66-year-old woman, who was hit by two vehicles and killed while trying to help a wounded animal, is renowned former ballet dancer, actress and teacher Zina Bethune. The accident occurred Sunday, February 12, 2012, on Forest Lawn Drive, reported Fox News.

Bethune reportedly left her Lincoln Towncar running on Forest Lawn Drive, and got out to help what turned out to be a dead opossum.

An eastbound vehicle hit Bethune, throwing her into the westbound lane, where she was hit by another vehicle that dragged her over 600 feet.

The driver of the second vehicle is unknown as police are unsure if the driver fled the scene, or was among the many drivers that were interviewed by investigators at the scene.

Bethune sustained severe head injuries in the accident, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unknown if any of the drivers are facing charges related to the crash.

Investigations are underway.
