Bremerton Man Killed in Accident at Seattle Shipyard

Seattle, WA — A Bremerton man was killed Friday, February 3, 2012, after falling 75 to 100 feet at a Seattle shipyard. The fatal work-related accident occurred at Vigor Shipyards just after noon, reported Kitsap Sun.

William “Bull” Ben Shelby was working on the drill rig Kulluk, when he fell 75 to 100 feet, hitting scaffolding on his way down.

Responding emergency crews pronounced Shelby dead at the scene.

There were no eyewitnesses to the fatal accident, and no one knows what went wrong.

All work at the shipyard has since been stopped while investigations are ongoing.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the fatal work-related accident.

Shelby leaves behind a wife, two sons, a daughter, two stepdaughters and a stepson.
