Chicago, IL — A fiery wrong-way crash killed four Chicago-area men Monday, February 6, 2012, along Interstate 80. The fatal automobile accident occurred near the Chicago suburb of Hazel Crest in the east bound lanes of the highway, reported the Chicago Tribune.

According to witnesses, a 1996 Infiniti was traveling at a high rate of speed when it got on I-80 and headed east in the westbound lanes.

The Infiniti then slammed head-on into a 1999 Ford wagon, setting both vehicles on fire.

The crash killed the driver of the Ford, Jason Wepsiec, 35. Three people in the Infiniti, Jorge Pina, 27, Gustavo Vargas, 29, and Armando Ruiz, 29, were also killed in the wreck. A passenger in the Infiniti, sustained injuries and was rushed to an area hospital where the passenger is in stable condition.

The Illinois State Police believe alcohol was a factor.

Everyone in both vehicles was wearing their seatbelts.

An investigation into the deadly head-on crash is underway.
