Worker Killed by Falling Beam in South Side Demolition Accident

Chicago, IL — A demolition accident on the South Side left a construction worker dead on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. The fatal work-related accident occurred just before 9 a.m., at 11 E. 79th Street when a piece of a concrete beam fell onto the worker, reported the Chicago Tribune.
According to Gresham District police, the victim was working on the top floor of the three-story building when a beam and part of the ceiling fell on him, leaving him with fatal injuries.
Responding emergency crews pronounced the victim—a male—dead at the scene, reported NBC Chicago. His identity is being withheld at this time.
Another man was reportedly working with the victim, but he was not injured.
It s unknown at this time what caused the concrete beam and building material to fall onto the man.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the fatal workplace accident.
