Kearney High School Bus Collided with Semi on I-80; 7 Hospitalized

Kearney, NE — A school bus and a tractor-trailer collided along Interstate 80 Thursday morning, November 8, 2011, injuring six Kearney High School students and one staff member. The school bus and semi-truck crash occurred near mile marker 419 at around 9:15 a.m. in Cass County.

According to officials, twenty-eight high school students and four staff members were on the bus, while on their way to University of Nebraska Medical Center for a field trip.

Details surrounding the wreck and what exactly happened are limited at this time, but authorities reported that the bus did not roll over.

The six injured students and staff member were taken to an area hospital treatment. Some students were treated for minor injuries by responding emergency crews, before being taken to Ashland/Greenwood High School to wait for another bus to transport them back to school.

The identities of those involved are being withheld at this time.

Investigations are underway.
