Lodi, CA — Officials have identified the man who was killed in an industrial accident at a General Mills plant in Lodi on Thursday, October 13, 2011. The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 53-year-old Lodi resident Gary Lawce, reported the Lodi News-Sentinel.

According to officials, the death certificate for Lawce lists his cause of death as blunt force trauma and abdominal injury. But, an autopsy investigation is still ongoing.

Lawce was reportedly working at the plant when a boxcar he had been unloading supplies from came unhitched, which caused him to stop the boxcar by using an emergency break. But, the boxcar continued to move backwards, pining him and leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Lawce was rushed to an area hospital where his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead, as previously reported in “California Man Killed in Workplace Accident at General Mills Plant.”

News10 reported that General Mills spokeswoman Sheila Klee made a statement regarding the fatal workplace accident: “Sadly, we can confirm an accident today at our Lodi facility that resulted in the death of one of our employees. An investigation is underway, but we have no further details to share at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our employee…and with his many friends and co-workers in the community. “

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is expected to investigate the fatal workplace accident.
