Naples, FL — A 30-year-old Bonita Springs construction worker was killed after being run over by a forklift in a residential neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, August 31, 2011. The fatal work-related accident occurred around 4:45 p.m., at 630 Fountainhead Way in Port Shore, reported Naples News.

According to Naples Police, Christian Flores was walking between a moving forklift and a delivery truck parked in the road when he was run over by the forklift.

Preliminary accident investigations revealed that both faulty equipment—a broken mirror and reverse beeper—and lack of experience operating the heavy machinery led to the fatal accident.

Flores was pronounced dead at the scene. His body remained underneath the forklift, which was near a flatbed tractor-trailer, before police cleared the accident scene.

Flores was an employee of J&A Loading of Bonita Springs.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating the construction accident. The Naples Police have ruled the death as an accident and do not expect to file any charges against the forklift operator.
