Fresno, CA — A teenager sustained fatal head injuries while hiking on a popular Yosemite National Park trail when he slipped and fell Saturday, August 6, 2011. The teen died four days after he fell on the Mist Trail, reported Fox News.
According to officials, Kao Kue, 17, was hiking the Mist Trail when the slip and fall accident occurred. The trail reportedly runs along the Vernal Fall, which has warning signs that alert hikers that mist from the fall can make the trail slippery.
An air ambulance airlifted Kue to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of head injuries. Four days later, on Wednesday night, doctors pronounced him dead.
The details surrounding Kue’s fall and his death are being withheld because of his age.
This year, 14 people have died in Yosemite, which is a modern-day record. Kue was not included in the death toll because his accident occurred outside the park’s boundaries.
