San Jose, CA — An elderly driver who plowed into a packed recreation room of a nursing home, killing two residents, may be facing charges in connection with the motor vehicle accident. The fatal car accident occurred Saturday morning, June 25, 2011 at the Amberwood Gardens nursing home, reported KTVU.

According to investigators, a 90-year-old visitor to the nursing home was in their vehicle in the parking lot when it accelerated from the parking lot into a packed recreation room.

Two residents were killed in the motor vehicle accident. Esther Bocanegra, 88, died on Saturday, while 100-year-old Suzanne Infante passed away on Sunday.

Staff at Amberwood jumped into action and tried to save the residents following the wreck.

“One gentleman literally put his hand against the wall and pushed the car. Another gentleman who’d only been here who was a janitor he was able to get in even while the lady was in there and was able to move the car back and get the car off,” said Amberwood Gardens executive director Stephen Hooker to KTVU.

The identity of the driver is being withheld.

Investigators have conducted interviews with the driver and witnesses, as well as examined the accident scene to help determine if they will press any charges against the driver.

Investigations are underway.
