Shoreview, MN — A toddler was killed after he pushed a button on a treatment table at First Chiropractic Thursday evening, June 9, 2011. The fatal accident occurred at the chiropractic office located on the 1000 block of Highway 96 in Shoreview, reported Kare11.

According to officials, the toddler’s mother, Amy Elizabeth Newton, was at the Dr. Lowell Magelssen’s chiropractic office with her three children, including 18-month-old Benjamin Newton. The children were in the exam room at the time, when Benjamin crawled underneath the mechanized exam table his mother was strapped to. Benjamin hit a button which lowered the table and crushed the toddler.

No clinic staff members were reportedly in the room at the time of the accident.

Amy Newton began screaming and staff members came in and raised the table and began administering CPR. Responding emergency crews rushed Benjamin to Regions Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office stated that Benjamin died of head trauma and injuries consistent with the crushing accident.

Police officials have ruled the death as a tragic accident and do not expect to file any criminal charges.
