Casper, WY — A bus crash in western Iowa injured over three dozen high school students from Casper, who were on their way to a national band competition in Indiana. The bus accident occurred near Minden Nebraska on Interstate 80, Monday, June 6, 2011 around 8 a.m., reported the Billings Gazette.

Police officers believe the motor coach blew a tire, causing it to skid off the highway and land on its side in a field along I-80.

A total of 39 people, who are members of the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, were injured in the wreck, but were released from four area hospitals within four hours of the crash. Police reported that most of the injuries consisted of bumps and bruises.

The victims were taken to hospitals in Omaha, Neb., and Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The bus driver was airlifted to an Omaha hospital, where he received stitches for cuts on his face. The driver was reportedly pinned inside of the wreckage following the crash.

Investigations are underway.
