Midlothian, TX — Three workers are in critical condition following an accident at a Midlothian cement plant Thursday evening, May 19, 2011. The work-related accident occurred at the TXI Cement Company plant off Highway 67, in one of the kilns, reported the Dallas Morning News.

“At this point, we don’t have a lot of details…We can confirm that five workers were injured while performing maintenance activities in the main processing area of TXI’s Midlothian plant. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families,” said David Perkins, a spokesman for TXI, in a statement released Thursday evening.

Firefighters reported five people were burned in the accident. Three victims were rushed by helicopter to Parkland Hospital for treatment of injuries. Two other workers were taken to area hospitals by ambulance.

The Midlothian Fire Department, Mansfield and Cedar Hill fire departments all responded to the scene.

Investigations are underway.
