Man Filling up His Car was Hit and Killed Alongside I-526 by Dump Truck

North Charleston, SC — A man who was filing up his car with gas along I-526 was hit and killed by a passing dump truck Wednesday night, May 11, 2011. The fatal car accident occurred around 10:30 p.m., just before the International Boulevard exit, reported WCSC.
According to North Charleston police, Obrian Fludd, 37, of North Charleston was filling up his Lincoln Continental along the shoulder of the highway, when an eastbound dump truck struck Fludd and the vehicle.
Responding emergency crews rushed to the scene where they pronounced Fludd dead. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office reported that Fludd died from blunt force injuries.
The driver of the dump truck claims he didn’t see Fludd and the vehicle, and only heard a thump.
The accident remains under investigation. It was not reported if the dump truck driver is facing any charges or citations.
