Victoria, TX — A tour bus crash killed one woman and left 21 other people with injuries Wednesday night, May 11, 2011. The fatal bus accident occurred when the bus was involved in a two-vehicle collision with a pickup truck on U.S. 77 near Fleming Prairie Road about 9 p.m., reported the Houston Chronicle.

According to police officials, the tour bus, operated by Valley Transit was headed southbound on U.S. 77, when a Chevrolet S-10 pulled onto the highway from a side road and hit the bus.

The pickup reportedly sideswiped the bus, which then swerved from the road and slammed into a utility pole, damaging the front of the bus.

A 53-year-old woman, identified as Juana Lopez Perez, was killed in the crash. Twenty-one others were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials reported that none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.

The pickup truck driver was cited by police officers for failing to yield to the right of way at an intersection. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the wreck.

The bus was reportedly traveling from Houston to the Rio Grande when the accident occurred.

Investigations are underway.
