U.S. Postal Service Truck Hits, Kills Toddler in Downingtown Borough

Downingtown, PA — A United States Postal Service truck hit and killed a young child in Chester County. The fatal automobile accident occurred Thursday, April 21, 2011 at around 9:45 a.m., in the 300 block of Kennedy Drive in Downingtown Borough, reported CBS News.

According to police, the 53-year-old USPS truck driver was delivering mail to the houses on the street, and as the driver was just finishing putting mail in one mailbox and was pulling away to go to the next mailbox, a 2-year-old boy crossed in front of the truck. The USPS driver reportedly did not see the child.

Responding emergency crews rushed the boy to Paoli Trauma Center where he died from his injuries.

The USPS driver remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with police.

No charges are pending at this time, but the accident is still under investigation.
