Worker Crushed to Death by Falling Equipment Near Bayou Segnette State Park

Westwego, LA — A construction worker was crushed to death at a job site near Bayou Segnette State Park on Saturday evening, April 16, 2011. The fatal construction accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on a job site in the 7700 block of Westbank Expressway, in the rear of the park, reported WAFB.
According to police officials, a piece of construction equipment fell from a crane the victim, identified as Johnnie Kennedy, 55, of Grant, Ala., was operating. The piece of equipment crushed him inside the crane.
Kennedy was found inside the crane beneath the equipment.
Responding rescue crews pronounced him dead at the scene.
It is currently unknown what caused the equipment to fall. Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct a full investigation.
All investigations are ongoing.
