Colerain Township, OH — A construction accident killed one worker and injured another when gusty winds blew a metal pole the workers were using into power lines Wednesday, March 23, 2011. The fatal work-related accident occurred around 8:30 a.m., at a duplex in the 3100 block of Regal Lane, reported Cincinnati.com.

According to reports, the workers were using a metal pole to erect scaffolding on the right side of the residence for a siding job, when gusty winds blew the pole into a set of power lines. The workers were apparently on the ground when the pole hit the 7,200-volt power lines.

Another co-worker, Brian Stanfield, 39, ran over and freed the two men from the pole, which was entangled in the power lines. Stanfield tried to resuscitate one of the workers, identified as David Macarthy, 30, as they waited for emergency rescue crews to arrive at the scene.

Macarthy was rushed to Mercy Hospital Mt. Airy where he was pronounced dead. The other worker, Rodney Whitler, 43, of Newport was rushed to University Hospital for treatment of burns to both feet and hands.

The workers are reportedly employed by A.E. Vinyl Siding of Cincinnati.

Investigations are underway.
