King City, CA—A two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 injured four people on Sunday, January 2, 2010. The automobile accident occurred near King City about a mile south of Central Avenue at around 5:05 p.m., in the northbound lanes of the highway, as reported by The Salinas Californian.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported, Christina Nguyen, 20, of San Jose, was driving a Toyota Camry southbound on Highway 101, when she lost control of her vehicle and veered across the center divide and into the northbound lanes of traffic. Nguyen’s vehicle slammed into a white 1999 Ford Ranger pickup, which was driven by Hugo Silva-Cortes, 32, of San Jose. Silva-Cortes reportedly could not avoid the collision, and hit the right front passenger side of the Camry.

Silva-Cortes and Nguyen suffered major and moderate injuries in the collision. Responding emergency crews transported Silva-Cortes by ambulance to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, while Nguyen was flown to a hospital in San Jose.

Two passengers in Nguyen’s vehicle, a 21-year-old resident of Arcadia and a 20-year-old Fremont resident, suffered minor injuries in the wreck. One of the passengers by ambulance to Lee Memorial Hospital, while the other was taken to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. A full investigation is underway.
