Emmet County, MI—A scaffolding collapse at a construction site at a Northern Michigan airport left a 61-year-old Roscommon County man dead. The fatal construction accident occurred on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Pellston Regional Airport at around 3:30 p.m., as reported by the Traverse City Record-Eagle and MLive.com.

Officials identified the fatally injured worker as Lee D. Syckle, 61, of Prudenville.

Syckle was reportedly one worker, among several, who was trapped underneath the fallen scaffolding and concrete blocks. It is unknown what prompted or led up to the fatal construction accident, but officials said they believe the workers were about to construct a wall when the collapse occurred.

Syckle reportedly worked as a mason for Grand Traverse Construction.

Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct a full investigation into the construction accident.
