West Chester, PA—QVC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled enamel-quoted 8-inch cast iron skillets due to burn hazards they pose. The CPSC announced the product safety recall, which affects approximately 7,500 units, on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010.

QVC initiated the recall upon discovering that small pieces of the enamel coating can potentially come loose when the skillet is heated. The defect can leave consumers susceptible to burns.

The Pennsylvania-based retailer received five reports of enamel popping off the skillet. Two of those incident resulted in minor burns.

According to the CPSC news release, “This recall involves Technique brand enamel-coated 8-inch cast iron skillets with two pour spouts and a ribbed underside. The interior portion of the skillet is cream while the exterior was sold in three colors: sage, blue and red. The brand “Technique” is printed on the bottom of the pans.”

The dangerous cast iron skillets were manufactured by Meyer Trading Company Limited, of Hong Kong, China, and sold through QVC’s televised shopping programs.

The skillets were also made available for purchase at qvc.com and at QVC retail and employee stores between August 2009 and September 2010. Prices ranged from $28 to $35.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the risky cast iron skillets and return them to any QVC store for a full reimbursement. The company is also sending all known consumers instructions on how to receive a full refund.

Consumers with questions or concerns are advised to contact QVC at (800) 367-9444 from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. ET any day, or visit the company’s Web site at www.qvc.com.
