Fall River, MA—A Massachusetts state trooper was hit by a vehicle on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, while responding to an accident along Route 24. The officer was responding to a single-vehicle accident at 6:25 a.m., on Route 24 near the intersection of Route 79, when the oncoming vehicle hit him three minutes later, as reported by The Herald News.

Trooper Christopher Kaszyk managed to jump onto the hood of the oncoming vehicle, causing him to go over the car’s roof, just as the car slammed into the car involved in the initial accident.

Responding emergency crews rushed Kaszyk to Charlton Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Kaszyk was released after treatment and he is now recovering at home.

Michael Camero, 47, of Swansea, the driver who hit Kaszyk, was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

The crash is under investigation. More charges could be possible.
