Update: Officials identify worker killed in Hattiesburg Paper Co. accident

Howard, WI— Officials have released the identity of the man who was killed in a work-related accident at a Howard paper company on Thursday, December 2, 2010. Another worker was left in critical condition, when they fell 30 feet from “scissors-type” scaffolding, reported the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Michael M. Leroy, 41, of Appleton, and another worker from Faith Technologies were reportedly performing routine electrical maintenance work at the Hattiesburg Paper Company, when the accident occurred at around 7 a.m.

Somehow the men fell 30 feet, and once they were on the ground, the scaffolding fell on top of them.

As previously reported in, “1 killed, 1 in critical condition after Wis. Hattiesburg Paper Co. accident,” The workers were pulled from underneath the scaffolding and were rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Leroy was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

The other worker was originally listed in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable condition.

“Faith Technologies and Hattiesburg Paper are committed to providing a safe work environment and are deeply saddened by the tragedy of this incident,” said Greg Santaga, president of Hattiesburg Paper.

Hattiesburg Paper, Faith Technologies and OSHA are investigating the work-related accident.
