Greene County, NC—Three people died in a violent head-on collision between a passenger car and sport utility vehicle Friday night, Nov. 26, 2010. The triple-fatality wreck occurred on US 13/258, in close proximity to Newell Road, as reported by WITN.

According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers, 24-year-old Greenville resident Shirley Mitchell was operating her SUV along US 13/258 at approximately 5:45 p.m.

For unknown reasons, Mitchell’s SUV veered over the centerline and into the path of an oncoming passenger car. The vehicles collided, sparking a fire in the SUV on impact.

Reports indicated Mitchell succumbed to her traumatic injuries at the scene. Two passengers who were occupying the car involved, whom authorities identified as Chiquita Taylor, 20, and Jonathan Lucas, 25, were killed in the wreck as well.

A third passenger in the car was rushed to the hospital in critical condition following the accident. That victim was not identified, given that he/she is a minor.

Though NCSHP troopers reported the car was registered to Snow Hill resident Debbie Taylor, she was not in the vehicle when the fiery collision occurred.

The State Highway Patrol is expected to conduct a full probe into the deadly Greene County SUV-car collision.
