Long Island, NY— CVS stores in Long Island are scrambling to figure out how to handle an incident, which left a 72-year-old woman sickened, and possibly dozens of fraudulent medications on store shelves. Rabin Purnsrian, 43, was arrested for allegedly selling fake pills disguised to be over-the-counter painkillers, indigestion drugs and nutritional supplements, as reported by WPIX.

Police officials reported that Purnsrian bought the over-the-counter painkillers, indigestion drugs and nutritional supplements from several Nassau County CVS stores. Purnsrian then would exchange the real over-the-counter medications for cheap drugs, sealing the lid with a glue gun before putting the bottle back into the original box and listing it for sale on EBay or returning them to the store.

A 72-year-old woman fell victim to the scam, when she consumed Omega-3 supplements for macular degeneration. She became sickened after taking the Iron Man Plus, a male erection pill, which Purnsrian had placed in the bottle.

Police say it is unknown how much money Purnsrian made off his scam. CVS customers can receive a full refund if they believe their purchases had been tampered with.

Purnsrian pleaded not guilty Wednesday to criminal nuisance, grand larceny, scheme to defraud, falsifying business records and reckless endangerment.

The Nassau County District Attorney has set up a public health hot-line for anyone who believes they may have purchased bad over-the-counter medications at 516-870-2802.

Affected CVS stores include branches in Lynbrook, Woodmere, East Rockaway, Hewlett, Westbury, Franklin Square, Wantagh and Rockville Centre.
