Tampa, FL—A two-car collision occurred at a residential intersection Saturday night, Nov. 20, 2010, claiming the life of a Tampa man and leaving five others injured. According to a St. Petersburg Times report, residents did not appear surprised by the fatal accident, claiming motorists ignore stop signs and speed through the intersection on a regular basis.

Reports indicated 18-year-old Charlotte V. Sowards was driving a 1992 Cadillac SLS when she slammed into a 1992 Honda Civic at the intersection of Wood Street and El Portal Drive around 9:37 p.m. The impact sent the Honda, which was occupied by five people, careening into a wooden pole.

Though emergency medical services (EMS) personnel rushed to aid those injured in the wreck, injuries sustained by the Honda’s driver, Jason D. Plumber, proved fatal at the scene.

Four others in the Honda, whom authorities identified as 17-year-old Jean P. Flores, 22-year-old Anthony Adams, 15-year-old Daniella Campo and 16-year-old Alexandria Symbolis, suffered serious injuries in the motor vehicle collision. They were all taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Sowards suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash. It was not clear if she required medical attention for her wounds.

According to resident Miguel Laguna, “Every day, people don’t stop at the stop sign… Every day, they speed down the street.”

Ralph Clifford, who also resides in the neighborhood where the crash happened, contended, “I think they should put in a four-way stop and speed bumps… We’ve got kids in this neighborhood.”

No charges have been filed in connection with the deadly Tampa accident as of yet. Investigations were expected to be underway.
