Los Angeles, CA—A homeless woman has been charged with murder after allegedly pushing an elderly woman from a Metro Gold Line platform in Little Tokyo. Jackkqueline Pogue pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, as reported by MSNBC.

As previously reported in, “Woman, 84, Pushed, Killed at Los Angeles Metro Platform; Attacker Arrested,” Betty Sugiyama, was on the Metro Gold Line platform with her sister, when she was pushed onto the empty train tracks. Investigators believe the attack was unprovoked. Betty was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she sadly died hours later.

Witnesses reported that Pogue, 44, calmly sat back down after pushing Betty, as the victim lay on the tracks with a cracked skull.

Betty’s sister, Mary Sugiyama stated, “I didn’t see any anger or expression on her face.” She recalled how the woman, who was dressed in all black, jumped from her seat and rushed up to Betty. “She didn’t look like she was upset or anything.”

Police officials are still trying to uncover a motive. It is unclear whether Pogue is mentally ill, or if she was under the influence of drugs at the time. Pogue seemed coherent when she was speaking with detectives.

One of Pogue’s family members told KCAL-TV that Jackkqueline had recently been discharged from a psychiatric hospital and was prescribed powerful medication.

Investigations are underway.
