Eureka, MO—A fiery collision involving a Rockwood School District school bus and sport utility vehicle Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman. The collision occurred in south St. Louis County, in close proximity to Eureka, around 8:30 a.m., according to information provided by KMOV.

Reports indicated 20-year-old Kaela Archambault was driving her SUV along Highway FF when her vehicle veered across the centerline and into the path of a school bus. Archambault’s SUV slammed head-on into the bus, sparking a fire on impact.

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel responded to the scene of the wreck at Highway FF and Tall Oaks Drive, where they found Archambault already dead.

According to a spokesperson for the Rockwood School District, five Geggie Elementary students were riding the bus at the time. The children, who were in grades 1, 2, 3 and 5, were all transported to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center to be treated for unspecified injuries.

The bus driver, who has been employed by the Rockwood School District since 2002, was also taken to the hospital for treatment. The bus driver has since been released, and the five students were expected to be released as well.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the fiery St. Louis County bus-SUV collision.
