Pickerington, OH—A van struck two veterans on Refugee Road Monday evening, November 8, 2010, killing one of them and critically injuring the other. The deadly pedestrian-involved traffic accident occurred around 6:45 p.m. in Pickerington, Ohio, as reported by the Lancaster Eagle Gazette.

According to information provided, 84-year-old Carleton D. Irish, 83-year-old John H. Evans Jr. and 63-year-old Danny L. Davis were crossing Refugee Road from the American Legion Post 283, just as a white Ford van was traveling west on the road.

The van, driven by 88-year-old Kermit Edwards, slammed into the pedestrians. The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) contended the veterans, who were not wearing reflective clothing or walking in a crosswalk, were on their way to a function at Pickering North High School at the time.

Medical personnel arrived at the scene and transported both victims to Grant Medical Center. Irish suffered traumatic injures, which proved fatal at the hospital. Evans Jr. was listed in critical condition at the hospital. It did not appear as if Davis suffered any injuries. Edwards also escaped injury.

A full investigation into the fatal Ohio traffic accident was expected to be underway.
