Detroit, MI—A bizarre accident in which a couple of large plastic tanks fell off a trailer and onto another car left two people, including a child, injured. The accident occurred Wednesday morning, October 13, 2010, in close proximity to Stratton and Waterman streets, according to information provided by Click on Detroit.

Reports indicated Ron Davis was driving his semi truck, which was carrying two large plastic tanks in its trailer, when it approached a railroad trestle. A posted clearance sign indicated the trestle was 12 feet 8 inches. Given that Davis’ truck is 12 feet 4 inches, he proceeded forward.

However, Davis failed to recognize one important factor. “My truck will clear, but these tanks are a little bit higher. By the time I realized that, it was too late,” explained Davis. The tanks consequently fell onto a nearby car.

According to Sheila Santiago, who told reporters her sister’s boyfriend was driving the car at the time, “When he was coming this way, the truck driver was going that way, and he just smashed into the top of the bridge and the things just fell on top of the car.”

Santiago contended her sister’s boyfriend suffered a broken leg and was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment. Her 8-year-old nephew, who was situated in the back seat of the car when the tanks crashed into it, was taken to Children’s Hospital. His unspecified injuries were non-life threatening.

“I’m just glad nobody got hurt, seriously. The last thing I wanted on my conscious is if somebody got really hurt or worse,” Davis said. “That car just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he added.

Reports did not specify if any charges were filed in connection with the accident.
