Spanish Fork UT Construction Accident: Man, 31, Killed by Trackhoe Bucket

Provo, UT—A construction accident in Spanish Fork left a worker dead when he was stuck by a trackhoe on Thursday, October 21, 2010. The fatal construction accident occurred around 1 p.m., near 660 N. Lynnbrook Drive, as reported by KSL.com.
According to Spanish Fork police, a construction crew was installing a new sewer line, when the fatal accident occurred. A 31-year-old man was reportedly standing in the bottom of a concrete manhole, about 10-feet deep and 6- to 8-feet in diameter. As the worker was trying to level it, the bucket of a trackhoe slipped, hitting the worker in the chest. The construction worker was knocked unconscious.
“The trackhoe operator pushes down on the side of the manhole to attempt to level it. The trackhoe slips off and knocks into the chest of the individual in the manhole,” reported Spanish Fork police.
The unconscious worker was breathing when he was pulled from the manhole, but he tragically succumbed to his injuries while being prepped to be airlifted to the hospital.
Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the fatal construction accident.
