Oklahoma City, OK—Two construction workers were rushed to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, October 19, 2010, when a section of scaffolding collapsed on them. The construction accident occurred at around 12:30 p.m., at the Cleveland County Jail construction site, just east of the Flood Avenue and Franklin Road intersection in Norman, as reported by The Norman Transcript.

The two victims were reportedly working on scaffolding inside the building when the cinder blocks suddenly began to collapse. The men then plummeted between 12 to 18 feet to the ground.

By the time emergency rescue crews arrived at the scene, several co-workers were already trying to pull the men from the crumbled scaffolding.

The two victims were rushed to Norman Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Officials reported that one victim “is complaining of a back injury,” and the other “had multiple leg fractures and contusions.”

The workers were identified as men in their 40s, who work for Sun Valley Masonry, based in Phoenix, Ariz.

A full investigation is underway. Officials at the construction site say that the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are not required to be notified about the construction accident. Safety personnel from Timberlake Construction and Sun Valley Masonry are expected to arrive at the scene to inspect the site.
