Oklahoma City, OK—A multi-million dollar settlement has been reached with the families of the victims who were tragically killed along the Oklahoma Turnpike in June 2009. A nearly $63 million settlement was reached on Thursday, October 7, 2010, with eight relatives of the victims, as reported by the Dallas Morning News.

In June 2009, a tractor-trailer driven by Donald Creed, 77, of Willard, MO., slammed into at least three cars, causing the vehicles to crash into other vehicles, leaving 10 people dead.

The $62.7 million settlement was announced in the Cleveland County courtroom as prospective jurors were waiting to be questioned for the trial.

The lawsuit alleges that the operator of the semi-truck, who is associated with Wholesale Grocers Inc., was not properly trained or supervised before the fatal crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike in northeaster Oklahoma. In addition, on the day of the wreck, Creed had worked continuously from 3 a.m., to 1:16 p.m.

Creed pleaded guilty in August to 10 counts of negligent homicide, a misdemeanor. He will also serve 30 days in a county jail and will electronically monitored for the first year of probation, as part of his plea agreement. Creed will also not be allowed to have a commercial driver’s license.
