Oakland, CA (Oakland Motorcycle Accident Lawyer News)—A violent motorcycle crash in close proximity to Oakland International Airport claimed the life of a San Pablo man Friday morning, September 24, 2010. The fatal accident involved a motorcycle and minivan, both of which were traveling along Hegenberger Road when they collided around 5:58 a.m. While the impact of the crash damaged the side of the Chevrolet Astro van substantially, the driver was not injured. The motorcyclist, on the other hand, was not so fortunate, according to the Oakland Tribune.

Reports stated 27-year-old Robert Adams was operating his motorcycle in the southbound lanes of Hegenberger Road when it slammed into the passenger side of a van. Adams apparently attempted to apply his brakes before impact, but to no avail. The van, owned by Sky Chefs and driven by 46-year-old Jose Rodriguez, was reportedly making a left turn from the northbound lanes of Hegenberger onto Leet when the crash occurred. Upon doing so, Adams was ejected onto the roadway. His bike was completely totaled in the collision.

Though emergency medical services (EMS) personnel rushed to the scene to transport Adams to Highland Hospital, his injuries proved fatal upon his arrival. Rodriguez was not hurt. According to data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) Encyclopedia, 5,312 motorcyclists were killed in U.S. traffic accidents during the year 2008. Of those casualties, 560 motorcyclists lost their lives in crashes that occurred throughout the state of California. Police are asking any individuals who witnessed the Oakland motorcycle wreck to contact traffic Officer Peter Hubbert at (510) 851-2127. Investigations continue.
