Port St. Lucie, FL—A young child who was run over by his grandfather’s car was hospitalized after the accident, which occurred at 4642 SW Alpha Street. While the 18-month old boy’s mother found her child bumped and bruised after the incident, she did not immediately know who struck him, according to a Monday, September 20, 2010 WPBF report.
Frantzcesse Novembre, the injured toddler’s mother, alleged she went outside to retrieve something from her vehicle when the young boy managed to sneak out of their home. The child’s grandfather, Jacques Novembre, was reportedly moving cars around in the driveway around at the same time.
At some point, the child fell in the driveway and was consequently run over by his grandfather’s car. According to Port St. Lucie police spokesperson Tom Nichols, “The grandfather got out of the car and found the child crying… He brought (the child) inside and his mom went to care for the child and found tire marks on (him).”
While the tot was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center after the accident, he was expected to be OK. Police stated the boy suffered a bruised lung in the incident.
Nichols contended, “We don’t think it was malicious, it was purely accidental… Criminal charges may be pending.”
The accident remains under investigation.
